The perfect marriage always starts out as a friendship and leads to love. Love is a powerful, strong word that is sometimes used improperly. For instance, saying I love something is much different than saying I am in love with something. Basically, it is like trying to compare apples to oranges. Being in love is unexplainable. I discovered that from my parents who both said love is the most extraordinary feeling they have ever had, and they have never loved anything more than they love each other. My parents saying that made me want to throw up, but love is what keeps the relationship strong and healthy. On the topic of keeping a relationship strong and healthy, a healthy relationship always starts with a sturdy friendship base. My aunt and uncle have been great friends ever since high school, they even went to prom together and were announced as king and queen. They went to different colleges, but still remained close and ended up getting married after college. By going to different colleges, their friendship base was really tested between each other. They grew apart, but always seemed to drift back towards each other. Their “love story” makes me want to throw up too, but the heart of the matter is they took a while to get to know each other and grasp that friendship base before taking their relationship to the next level. People who do not take advantage of the friendship base usually end up in a bad relationship. For instance, one of my father’s friends married a girl a week after just meeting her at a party. Because they did not have a good friendship base that marriage did not last long at all. Without a solid friendship base, there can be no love, and without love there can be no marriage. Before anyone gets married, they must build a friendship base, and then the falling in love begins.
